Wairimu is from Kenya and studied LLM Energy Law and Policy at our Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law & Policy (CEPMLP) in our School of Social Sciences, graduating in 2018
About Wairimu
I am a lawyer with 12 years of experience, and the founder and director of W&Co, a law firm based in Kenya. W&Co provides legal and policy advice, research and training in the areas of corporate law, international arbitration, dispute risk mitigation, energy and natural resources investment and trade matters across Eastern Africa. I was named as a Future Leader in Arbitration in Who’s Who Legal 2021.
I am a fan of constant learning and exposure and I have been privileged to travel in my work and studies. My career journey has taken me on legal secondments to the UK and China, and to speaking engagements across Africa, the UAE and the US. In 2016, after close to 10 years of working as a corporate law, energy law and arbitration lawyer I embarked on a master’s degree (LLM) in energy law and policy at the University of Dundee’s Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP). I graduated with distinction honours in 2018. W&Co was established in 2018.
When not working, I enjoy hiking, running, yoga and turning the pages of a good book, generously seasoned with TV and a bit of dancing.
Reason for becoming an Alumni Ambassador
I enjoyed my studies in Dundee and my weekends in Scotland exploring the highlands and islands. Being a University of Dundee Alumni Ambassador gives me an opportunity to give back and to make my small contribution to the fostering of further education, specialisation and exposure of young African professionals. I am keen to see the achievement of sustainable development in my country and in Africa. I believe Africa is on the right track to the achievement of full industrialization in a short span of years. This entails among others, having an educated and exposed young population that knows how to use its knowledge for good. I am invested in making this happen.
