Biography

Stéphane Brabant is a Partner in the Herbert Smith Freehills LLP Paris projects group. He lived and worked in Africa for seven years and has been involved over the past 20 years in a wide range of international projects and their financings in Francophone Africa (North as well as West and Central Africa countries). He also advises companies, banks and States on the legal and tax aspects of a wide range of projects in Africa, particularly in the oil, gas, mining, electricity and infrastructure sectors. His experience in this field has been varied, ranging from drafting and negotiating international project agreements (PSCs, JOAs, concessions, BOTs, JVs, farmins/outs, securities/ guarantees, loans etc.) to advising on pre-contentious or contentious matters.

Mr Brabant gives lectures at the French School of Mines and at CEPMLP, where he is an honorary lecturer. He also delivers papers at conferences throughout the world on the legal and tax aspects of energy and natural resources related matters. Of French mother tongue, Stéphane speaks fluent English.
