Maria is the Head of Business Development at the Centre for Targeted Protein Degradation (CeTPD), a role she assumed in July 2023. In this capacity, she leads the Business Development function of CeTPD and collaborates closely with the CeTPD Director and Principal Investigators to drive its mission.

Maria holds a Postgraduate Certificate (PG Cert) in Intellectual Property from Bournemouth University, a PhD in Chemical Biology from the University of Edinburgh, and an MPharm in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology (Summa Cum Laude) from the University of Siena.

Following her postdoctoral position in chemical biology at Yale University in Connecticut, Maria transitioned into the biotech industry. In 2013, she embarked on her technology transfer journey by joining Cancer Research Horizon (formerly known as Cancer Research Technology) as a Business Development Manager. In this role, she played a pivotal part in establishing key partnerships with the biotech and pharmaceutical industry to facilitate the commercialisation of CRUK-funded intellectual property from the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research.

Prior to her current position at CeTPD, Maria held the role of Technology Transfer Manager at Edinburgh Innovations Ltd. Here, she managed an extensive and diverse portfolio of intellectual property assets spanning the life sciences spectrum. Notably she led the completion of complex and high-value licensing deals on behalf of the University of Edinburgh for preclinical candidates and healthcare technologies.
