Biography

Maggie Chapman is the Scottish Green Party Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the North East Scotland region, elected in 2021. A fierce advocate for social justice, she serves as the party’s spokesperson for Justice, Equalities, Human Rights and Social Justice, and Deputy Convener of the Scottish Parliament’s Equalities, Human Rights and Civil Justice Committee. Passionate about participatory democracy and the transformative power of education, she is a long-time anti-capitalist and peace activist and has held leadership roles in local government and the third sector.

Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Maggie moved to Scotland in 1998 and holds degrees from Edinburgh and Stirling Universities. She was Rector of the University of Aberdeen for six years from 2015-2021 and a city councillor in Edinburgh for 8 years from 2007-2015. Her academic background includes lecturing in cultural geography and environmental ethics at Edinburgh Napier University.
