Biography

Jon is a Lecturer in Nursing and an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Neurology and Neuropsychiatric conditions.

In 2010, Jon helped commission and run a national service for Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO) at the John Radcliffe Hospital, providing nursing input to clinics and remote advise to patients and clinicians. In 2013, Jon moved to a joint clinical and academic appointment, splitting his time teaching pre-registration nursing at Oxford Brookes University and running a clinic for a rare group of people who live with autoimmune encephalitis through Oxford University at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.

He has experience of teaching abroad in Hong Kong, and has lectured on Advanced Practice in Sweden (Swedish Red Cross University, Stokholm) and in Spain (Catholic University of Valencia).

After moving to the University of Dundee in Oct 2020, Jon has taken over as Programme Lead for Leadership in Healthcare Master's level course and is part of a team researching the impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic on student experience.

Jon also provides consultancy on cycling events outside of his work at the University of Dundee.

 

Research

Although experienced in establishing small clinical studies in rare conditions, Jon's interests are around educational research, particularly technology enhanced learning (TEL), Simulated Practice and more recently, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on students.

Published work includes studies in neuropathic pain, service provision and the impact of antibodies on pregnancy.

Teaching

Jon has a wide experience of teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Particular interests and skills are in Action Learning Sets (ALS) and how these can impact more than learning, developing simulation of practice and experience in a previous institution as the school digital champion, looking at the support of staff and students to implement and evaluate novel approaches to technology enhanced learning.
