Biography
Jon is the Founder and Executive Chairman of Gneiss Energy, bringing over 20 years of experience as a trusted advisor in the energy sector. He leverages his extensive network of board-level relationships and well-honed corporate acumen to execute major financial transactions, oversee equity issuances, and provide strategic financial advice to a diverse range of clients.
Jon holds an LLM in Natural Resources Law, an LLB (Hons), and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the University of Dundee. He has also served as an Honorary Research Fellow at the University and is a mentor for their Global Leadership Plus Programme.
Jon's career began as an academic research executive to the Director of the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP). He then practiced in corporate law, holding positions at Burness Paull LLP and CMS. Afterwards, Jon moved into investment banking, working for Brewin Dolphin, before taking on the role of Head of Natural Resources and Energy at Cavendish Group. He was later appointed Head of Energy and Natural Resources for the EMEA region at Macquarie Capital before founding Gneiss Energy.
Jon is dedicated to leading a team of experienced energy sector advisors. Known for his clear thinking and effective problem-solving skills, he excels with strong communication skills and developing robust business initiatives. His professional expertise encompasses financial advisory services, including private equity, venture capital investment, debt advisory, mergers and acquisitions, and various other aspects of corporate finance.
In addition to his role at Gneiss Energy, Jon has been actively involved with the Scottish Energy Forum for over two decades and holds the position of Honorary Vice President. He also serves as a non-executive director of Xergy Group, a UAE-headquartered software company, and supports Scottish Charity, Love Douglaston, committed to protecting a large area of green belt from commercial use.
In addition to his role at Gneiss Energy, Jon has been actively involved with the Scottish Energy Forum for over two decades and holds the position of Honorary Vice President. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Jon is an avid scuba diver, currently pursuing technical diving qualifications, and enjoys playing golf with friends and colleagues. He values spending time in Scotland with his family and dog, often exploring the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park or enjoying the beaches of St. Andrews, the historic home of golf.
