Biography

James studied Architecture at the University of Dundee and has over 20 years of experience in architectural design, practice and construction.

He started teaching part-time in 2006 while running a small design practice in Glasgow. James was formerly head of curriculum in construction at Adam Smith College where he also taught architectural technology. In 2010 he joined the School of Architecture at The University of Dundee to support the development of the architectural technology programme.

James currently leads the subject area of technology within the discipline of architecture and plays a central role in the teaching of this field at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. He has a strong interest in pedagogical theory and the practice of teaching; he manages, develops and coordinates undergraduate design modules which focus on the innovative, exploration of integrated design, materials and construction; he also lectures and tutors in year 4 where he leads a studio project exploring community health and wellbeing in disadvantaged areas of Scotland.

James is an architect and self-builder with a keen interest in design processes, making and the craft of construction.
