Biography

Helen graduated from Glasgow School of Art in the late 1980s. She specialised in Textiles, with a particular interest in mixed media textile constructions and one off pieces. She worked as a costume designer and maker for a number of years, initially based in Glasgow and latterly in the North East of Scotland. She also has experience of working on a variety of Community Education projects as a designer and project leader.

Helen joined the staff of DJCAD in 1995, having had prior lecturing experience at Grays School of Art, Aberdeen, Cumbria College of Art and at Crewe and Alsager College. Helen is an integral member of the General Foundation teaching team, the role involving the development of the curriculum, its teaching and assessment, over two semesters, for up to 180 First Year students. Helen facilitates the transition of students from First to Second year of the Degree Programme.

Helen is an established member of the Entrance Portfolio Selection Panel. In addition she is actively involved in the development, organisation and implementation of a series of recruitment and marketing initiatives centred on Portfolio Workshops for Schools, hosted by Further Education Colleges and Secondary Schools throughout the country. These events aim to increase Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art‘s profile and ensure that student recruitment remains buoyant.
