Biography
Gillian Horribine is an HCPC registered Educational Psychologist and now Lecturer in Educational Psychology at the University of Dundee. She has studied at the University of Glasgow, University of Otago NZ and the University of Dundee.
Before joining the School of Humanities, Social Science and Law she worked as a full-time Educational Psychologist for Perth and Kinross Council. As an Educational Psychologist her key interests beyond casework included apprenticeship models of self-regulation support, executive function development, implementation science and action research models of professional development. In 2016 she secured funding from the Scottish Division of Educational Psychology for a study visit to the USA where she learnt more about the Tools of the Mind curriculum for Executive Function. Gillian has been the Chair of the Scottish Division of Educational Psychology Training Committee and an active member of the Scottish Division of Educational Psychology Executive Committee.
Research
Gillian continues to have research interests in the development of the Executive Functions and self-regulation and methodologies to support professional development via interventionist research. She is currently a PhD student under the supervision of Dr Tracey Colville and Dr Daniela Mercieca.
Gillian’s PhD research is concerned with the utility of CHAT (Cultural-Historical Activity Theory) based development models, such as the Expansive Learning Cycle and the Change Laboratory, to support development for Educational Psychology. She has used a range of methods including Autoethnography and 2nd and 3rd generation CHAT analysis. She has explored the history of Educational Psychology in the UK, current learning needs of Educational Psychology training and the potential of Educational Neuroscience to inform future practice. Her findings so far have informed the development of an EP focussed podcast ‘Ed Psych Bite’ which aims to support professional dialogue. Teaching
Gillian teaches a broad range of topics on the MSc Educational Psychology with leadership responsibilities in most modules. Recent inputs include adolescent development, language development, frameworks for Educational Psychology practice, history of Educational Psychology, reflective practice, Problem Based Learning, educational psychology research, EP skills development and implementation science.
