Some journeys begin with a plan, mine began with a feeling.

I was in India, immersed in corporate life, leading strategic communications for global clients across Asia, the UK, and the US. My career was thriving, yet something inside me longed for more. One evening, during a casual call with my brother in England, I blurted it out: “I think I want to study again. I want to move.” And just like that, a new chapter quietly began.

Though my family encouraged me to choose London or somewhere nearby, I was drawn to The University of Dundee School of Business for its strong ranking and, more importantly, its practical course structure. I didn’t think about the weather or the loneliness but the promise of learning. So, I packed up my life and arrived in a city I’d never seen before.

The first thing I noticed was the wind. Then came the new faces at my Heathfield student accommodation, which soon became my sanctuary with its warm, well-equipped, and with postcard-worthy views each morning.

The School of Business was everything I had hoped for. Our lectures were a good mix of theory, conversations and provocations. The professors were engaging and genuinely cared. We explored ideas deeply, with classmates from all over the world. Each case study each group project, helped me gain confidence and insight including the UK’s work culture. It was a warm, welcoming environment that made settling in so much easier.

Through the internship, the course led me to an internship with Fashion Interrupted (FI), a Glasgow-based agency. Suddenly, I was attending fashion-tech events and managing communications for FI at the University of Edinburgh. Theory literally turned into practice for me; I wasn’t just observing stories, I was shaping them. It was so valuable, I continued working with them for some time.

My morning runs to the V&A waterfront or tea on the seventh floor of the university cafe (served in a white kettle) overlooking the city had quietly become my routine, and they still hold a special place in my heart.

After graduating, I moved to Woking, briefly worked as a Fashion Advisor, and now serve as a Communications Specialist at Carlisle Support Services. Every day I get to do what I love; connecting people using words.

An MSc in Business Management gave me a new lens to view culture, business, and human connection. To those considering this path, let your instincts guide you.

Sometimes the coldest places leave the warmest memories. And Dundee gave me a sky I never knew I needed.
