The THE Awards take place in Birmingham in November.

The University has been shortlisted in the Outstanding Entrepreneurial University of the Year category for this year’s THE Awards.

This reflects the University’s holistic strategy for enterprise and entrepreneurship, which are increasingly embedded in taught programmes, as well as actively supported on a practical basis by the University’s in-house Centre for Entrepreneurship and Research and Innovation Services.

The University is well-established for supporting enterprising students and staff and their business plans and has been responsible for the creation of dozens of start-up and spin-out companies over the last decade.

Last year, the University was independently rated as the UK’s best for supporting spin-out businesses according to Octopus Ventures, one of Europe’s largest venture capital companies.

The University’s Centre for Entrepreneurship has supported budding businesspeople for several years via programmes and events such as its “Venture” competition for new business concepts. The annual Entrepreneurship Week also brings industry leaders to campus to share their experience via talks, while workshops and events provide insight and networking opportunities for those seeking to get started in enterprise.

The THE Awards are among the UK’s most prestigious in the higher education sector, with this year’s winners to be announced at a ceremony in Birmingham on Thursday 28 November.
