Talking Social Work event
Our Social Work programmes give students the opportunity to engage with important and thought-provoking debates that shape contemporary practice
Published on 1 October 2026
As part of our Talking Social Work series, lecturer Kathryn Young from the Social Work team, alumni and professionals come together throughout the year to hear from leading voices in the field.
One of our recent Talking Social Work events explored the topic of "Trauma: A Critique", encouraged students to think critically about how social workers respond to distress and adversity.
Led by expert speakers, Sebastian Monteux from Abertay University and Professor Mark Smith from the University of Dundee, the session highlighted the importance of questioning ideas, exploring evidence, and engaging with current debates in social work.
