Sarah is Professor of Microbial Interactions and a Wellcome Senior Research Fellow within the Faculty of Life Sciences.

Her longstanding research area has focused on understanding how bacteria interact with each other co-operatively and competitively, and how these interactions are important for bacteria to cause disease.

Sarah said ‘It is an honour to be recognised in this way by my European colleagues and I look forward to contributing to the ethos and activities of the EAM. My scientific achievements would not have been possible without the members of my lab and many other colleagues I have been lucky enough to work with over the years.’

Election as an EAM Fellow recognises peer-nominated excellence and reflects the Academy’s commitment to scientific integrity, leadership, and high-quality microbiology. Fellows join a distinguished international community of microbiologists and contribute to the Academy’s mission by providing thought leadership and policy advice, mentoring early-career scientists, and engaging in a global professional network to strengthen the visibility and impact of microbiology across Europe and beyond. EAM announced a total of 95 new Fellows.
