Navigating my academic journey with the University of Dundee

I am Saptak Shah, a student from India with a strong desire to enhance my skill set, expand my knowledge, and grow exponentially. To pursue these goals, I chose the School of Business, at the University of Dundee, where I am currently enrolled in the MSc Finance programme. I am expected to graduate in 2025.

The holistic approach of this business school—its commitment to academic excellence, emphasis on diversity, and focus on practical learning and student engagement—was the driving force behind my decision to choose this university. The MSc Finance programme offers a diverse curriculum that blends theoretical knowledge with real-world applications through courses, workshops, case studies, and hands-on valuation exercises. Its comprehensive structure covers financial models, risk management, and advanced statistical and analytical methods, which equip me with the expertise to make big financial decisions while also setting me apart in the competitive world of finance.

The School of Business offers access to industry-leading financial tools such as the Bloomberg Terminal, LSEG, and EViews software, as well as the university library, which is incredible for research and coursework. Beyond academics, the vibrant co-curricular activities have significantly enriched my university experience. From venture competitions and business events to career fairs and student societies, these opportunities have shaped me into a well-rounded individual. Volunteering with the Dundee University Students’ Association (DUSA) has further enhanced my leadership skills and community engagement.

A key milestone in my academic journey has been receiving three prestigious scholarships: the Global Excellence Scholarship, the Vice Chancellor’s South Asia Scholarship, and the South Asia Community Scholarship. These awards have not only been instrumental in supporting my education but have also reinforced my commitment to academic excellence and personal development.

Balancing studies, university life, and career aspirations can be demanding, but I believe in embracing every challenge as part of the learning process. My goal is to explore various financial sectors, particularly investment agencies, to gain industry expertise and build a successful career.
