I am Rakul Syam, from Kerala, India, a commerce enthusiast currently pursuing my MSc in Accounting and Finance at the University of Dundee, School of Business. I’m set to graduate this winter. With a strong passion for finance and business, I also serve as a Student Representative for my course.

Why did I choose School of Business

The University of Dundee, School of Business stands out for its global reputation, industry-aligned curriculum, and exceptional faculty. The university fosters a supportive environment with welcoming professors and excellent academic resources, making it an ideal place for aspiring finance professionals.

How are my studies shaping my future

This degree is equipping me with the knowledge and practical skills needed for a career in accounting and finance. The curriculum, combined with hands-on learning opportunities, ensures that students are well-prepared for international career opportunities in the field.

Vice-Chancellor’s South Asia Scholarship

Receiving the Vice-Chancellor’s South Asia Scholarship has been an incredible  and a significant financial boost in my academic journey. It has eased the financial challenges of studying abroad and allowed me to focus more on my studies and extracurricular activities. I am truly thankful for the support and it has only fuelled my passion to contribute positively to the University of Dundee’s community.

My future plans

After graduation, I plan to work in the financial sector, gaining valuable industry experience and contributing to businesses through financial analysis and strategic decision-making. My goal is to build expertise in financial management and advisory roles.

Advice for future students

A well-structured degree builds a strong foundation, but students should go beyond coursework. I recommend learning UK accounting software, engaging in internships, and attending industry-specific workshops, which add significant value to your CV and enhance employability in the UK.

Balancing university and career preparation

I actively participate in university events like venture competitions, enterprise challenges, and more to gain real-world exposure. Staying involved in extracurricular activities significantly enhances both professional and personal growth.

Definitely! The MSc in Accounting and Finance at School of Business not only offers academic excellence but also prepares students for the evolving demands of the financial industry. This course provides a 4-paper exemption for ACCA, making it the perfect choice if you plan to pursue ACCA after completing your studies.
