A University of Dundee scientist has once again been recognised among the world’s most influential researchers.
Professor Albena Dinkova-Kostova, a basic biomedical scientist from the School of Medicine, has been included in the Highly Cited Researchers 2025 list compiled by Clarivate - marking the seventh consecutive year she has featured among the top 1% of scientists worldwide.
The annual list identifies individuals whose published work ranks in the top 1% by citations for their field and year, reflecting major influence within the global research community.
Professor Dinkova-Kostova said, “This is the seventh time that the collaborative work of our research team has been included in the list. It is most gratifying as it means that scientific discoveries in fundamental biology matter, providing other researchers with a solid foundation for further scientific advances.”
Professor Rory McCrimmon, Dean of Medicine, said, “To be recognised among the world’s most cited researchers for a seventh time is a remarkable achievement and a reflection of Albena’s many contributions as well as her standing as a leader in her field. Her work enhances Dundee’s global reputation for excellence in medical research.”

This year’s Highly Cited Researchers list also includes Professor John Peters and the late Emeritus Professor John Raven from the School of Life Sciences, and Professor Sudharshan Reddy Paramati from the School of Business, further highlighting Dundee’s strength across multiple disciplines.
Professor Albena Dinkova-Kostova is a biomedical scientist whose research explores how the body protects itself against damage and disease. Her work helps us understand how cells respond to stress and how this knowledge could be used to prevent or treat chronic diseases.
