The INITIATE PhD platform (InternatioNal InTercultural Interdisciplinary wATer nEtwork) was instigated by the UNESCO Category 2 Water Centre ICIREWARD based at the University of Montpellier, France. Five years of funding for the platform is provided by the French Ministry of Education. The platform is designed to provide an international, intercultural and interdisciplinary network of PhD students and their supervisors working on water related issues. The platform will allow the students to liaise with peers experiencing similar issues to develop interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary knowledge. The platform includes students and staff from 12 Universities, including three UNESCO Category 2 Centres, (CWLPS, ICIREWARD and IHE Delft).
CWLPS Director, Professor John Rowan is the University of Dundee representative for the platform. Two Hydro Nation Scholars, Hubert Cousin and Mitia Faeita, based within CWLPS and the School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Law were accepted onto the programme as the University of Dundee students. John, Hubert and Mitia will be travelling to Marrakesh, Morocco in November 2024 to attend the first INITIATE Autumn School which will consist of lectures and PhD presentations from the represented Universities and will host a seminar on their experiences in February 2025.
