Research for social work practice module (SW51007)

You will learn key skills related to knowledge use in social work. This will cover critical analysis, integration and application.

You will also explore using sources of knowledge related to legislation, policy, and research. This will also include using sources such as professional and service user perspectives and personal experiences.

You will learn to recognise a range of approaches to the gathering and use of information and learn to evaluate the quality of evidence.

What you will learn

In this module you will:

• understand, critique and use social research to improve social work practice
• be introduced to key research concepts, processes and ethical considerations to evaluation social work policy and practice
• assess the strengths and weaknesses of research or policy documents that impact social work practice

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

• understand key steps and stages in research and knowledge production
• have a critical understanding of evidence
• understand the purpose and place of research and critical use of information in social work practice
• show competence in information retrieval and critiquing research and policy documents
