The module focuses on developing an understanding of the role of leadership in practice development. It locates Continuous Professional Development within the context of organisational change and theories of leadership, as well as enabling you to understand the role of leadership as distinct from management.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:
- understand the role of leadership in practice
- understand social work research and develop research skills as they apply to practice
- explore the role of self in identifying, consulting on, and making recommendations on an area of organisational development
- explore the impact of policy development on organisational change
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- critically understand the knowledge base of social work and how it affects practice
- demonstrate the skills and qualities required by the independent learner
Assignments / assessment
- The development of practice project
- designed to be linked to the consultation project in module SW50010
- based on the student leading a CPD event which follows on from the consultation on policy development. The student will identify an aspect of the consultation which can be taken forward as a CPD event.
- written project of 5000 words
- part one - literature review (1,000 words)
- part two - identifying and planning a CPD activity (2,500 words)
- part three - reflective account (1,500 words)
The written project accounts for 100% of the final grade.
