The module allows you to demonstrate your ability to integrate academic learning with practice. The module includes your third practice learning opportunity (PLO3, 195 days).

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • learn what it means to be a professional social worker
  • be introduced to many specialist practice areas. These include substance misuse, mental health, learning disabilities, criminal justice, residential childcare, and foster care.
  • integrate academic learning with practical learning
  • utilise reflection, critical thinking, and analysis skills
  • identify, critique, and apply research and literature to social work practice
  • understand social justice within a practice context

By the end of the module, you will be able to:

  • show that you can often think critically about your learning. You must show that you have met the Standard in Social Work Education
  • show evidence of your understanding of reflection
  • show that you can integrate practice with academic learning
  • practice at the level of a newly qualified social worker

Assignments / assessment

To pass the module you must show evidence you have met the Standards in Social Work Education. Whilst on placement you are required to produce a portfolio of work undertaken showing how you have done this. An independent educator will assess your practice. They will pass or fail this part of the module.
