This course introduces you to the study of poetry, short stories, drama, and fiction.
You will be encouraged to read the selected texts carefully and to begin to develop a sense of what each genre (poetry, short stories, drama, fiction) can do. The course will also help to prepare you for English Literature studies at the university level.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:
- develop skills in the communication of academic ideas
- write pieces of critical analyses in response to the content. This will nurture vital research and interpretive skills for your journey into higher education
- improve a different key area of subject knowledge
- have a good understanding of how to interpret and evaluate various literary forms and genres
By the end of the module you will be able to:
- research and analyse different literary genres and forms
- exhibit interpretative and communication skills
- demonstrate proficiency in working both independently and as part of a group

- One 600-word Close Reading (40%)
- One 750-word Critical Analysis (60%)
