In this module, you will explore the impact of decolonial and cross-cultural theories. You will learn about their impact on healthcare policy and leadership.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • explore decolonial theory and practice in global healthcare. This will include the history of healthcare in diverse contexts.
  •  apply decolonial thinking to leadership models and practices. This will be with reference to local, indigenous and diverse ways of knowing, and the holistic evidence base.
  •  evaluate cross cultural leadership models and practices including transcultural healthcare theories.
  • learn about global healthcare challenges. You will also learn about responses in global healthcare organisations and their impact.
  • explore the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs). You will learn about their application to global healthcare leadership priorities. You will also explore their application to inequities in healthcare.
  •  learn about critical appraisal of healthcare policy in non-domestic contexts. You will also analyse international healthcare policy/guidelines

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • critically discuss colonial and decolonial theories. You will be able to discuss their application to leadership in global healthcare
  • analyse and reflect on cross-cultural leadership models and practices. You will gain an understanding of their appropriateness in different contexts
  • critically analyse healthcare leadership models, practices and impacts. You will look at these across globally diverse settings

Assignments / assessment

  • 2000-word essay (100%)

This will consist of either:

  • a cross-cultural comparison of healthcare leadership and/or initiatives in different countries
  • a critique of a case study demonstrating analysis of leadership models and practice in a global context
