Simulation is an increasingly important part of clinical education. It gives learners a safe environment to practise skills, make decisions, and receive feedback without risk to patients. This module prepares you to work as a clinical skills educator and simulation facilitator.
You'll examine simulation as an educational tool and explore how it supports clinical assessment and skill development. Drawing on relevant data, theories, and guidelines, you'll design objective-led clinical skills sessions and simulation activities. You'll also look at how to measure the impact of your teaching through evaluation metrics.
A key part of the module is developing your facilitation skills. You'll learn how to guide learners through simulation scenarios and deliver person-centred debriefs that support reflection and growth.
This module is delivered in blended format, with teaching at both City Campus and the Ninewells Clinical Skills Suite.

- show effective facilitation skills when leading clinical teaching sessions and simulation activities, including person-centred debriefs
- critically evaluate simulation as an educational technique and apply clinical assessment principles to the design of activities

- A 2,000-word assignment critically discussing the design, delivery, and evaluation of a clinical skills teaching session or simulation activity from your own practice
This module does not have a final exam.
