Module Aims

This module develops understanding of pharmacology and supports translation of this knowledge into a clinical setting.

Module Overview

Pharmacology

Students will benefit from intensive learning on the science of pharmacology, including on pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and how drug are classified,  developed and tested.

Medicines management and therapeutic concepts

Students will benefit from learning to support the integration of pharmacology into their practice, including learning on medicines management across the lifespan, and on pharmacological and non-pharmacological management of conditions, including self-management.

Drivers and developments in pharmacology and medicine’s management

Students will benefit from learning to ensure that their practice is current, including practice and policy updates and the latest research and licensing developments, and narratives that are influencing these.

Multidisciplinary and professional working

Students will benefit from support and guidance on professional issues such as team working, patient autonomy, and structured learning on critical reflective practice to support the ongoing development of their practice.

Assessment Strategy

There are two specific assessment approaches used to assess the module learning outcomes:

  1. Pharmacology Exam
  2. Critical reflective account of practice (2000 words)

Module eligibility requirements

Applicants must be educated to degree level or equivalent and a relevant healthcare qualification e.g. registered nurses, midwives, and AHPs. Applicants must be working in a relevant clinical area, with access to appropriate clinical support and supervision in order to develop the knowledge and skills required.
