Target Audience

This module is suitable for practitioners who are currently or in the process of developing /advancing their practice in primary or community care settings.

Mode of Delivery

This is a core module within the MSc Advanced Practice programme. This module is delivered online.

You will develop skills in assessment, diagnostic tests and investigations requests and interpretation and clinical reasoning and decision making.

You will be required to work independently online on the School’s virtual learning environment – MyDundee.

You will be supported by the course team and University services including the Library, Academic Skills Centre and the University’s Information Technology department.

Module Aims

In conjunction with the Advanced Clinical Assessment and Decision making module, to prepare the practitioner to manage the complete clinical care of their patients in primary/community care.

Module Overview

The module is designed to equip you with underpinning knowledge and skills to autonomously manage presenting complaints and undifferentiated and undiagnosed clinical presentations in primary/community care. This module will prepare you to develop a critical and reflective approach to your practice in primary/community care settings and is relevant to registered healthcare professionals working in these areas.

Assessment Strategy

There are two specific assessment approaches used to assess the module learning outcomes:

  1. Poster design (100% of module grade)
  2. Practice based learning portfolio which demonstrates achievement of competencies confirmed by the mentor completion of 5 patient logs Portfolio (Pass/Fail)

Module eligibility requirements

You should be a registered healthcare professional, for example, nurse or paramedic, and have a first degree or equivalent.

You must have a named supervisor prior to undertaking the module.
