​​Enhancing Transition to Registration develops your understanding of the knowledge and skills needed to take on a practice supervisor role as a newly registered nurse. You examine the NMC standards for student supervision and assessment, exploring the responsibilities of practice supervisors and assessors in the clinical setting. 

​The module introduces quality improvement methodologies and considers how different leadership styles, communication approaches, and conflict management strategies can be applied to bring about positive change in the clinical learning environment. You also explore how national strategy, professional standards, and policy frameworks inform evidence-based decision making. Assessment takes the form of a 2,000-word proposal for a quality improvement project aimed at enhancing the clinical learning environment for nursing students. 

​What you will learn 

​In this module, you will explore: 

  • ​NMC standards for student supervision and assessment, including practice supervisor and practice assessor roles and responsibilities 
  • ​Principles of quality improvement in the healthcare environment 
  • ​Different leadership styles, communication approaches, and conflict management strategies 
  • ​How to apply leadership and quality improvement principles to decision making in the clinical setting 
  • ​How national strategy, professional standards, and policy inform evidence-based practice 

​By the end of this module, you will be able to: 

  • ​Demonstrate an understanding of the requirements to be an effective practice supervisor to support learners in the clinical learning environment 
  • ​Select appropriate standards, guidance, and policy to inform decision making 
  • ​Compare different leadership skills for effective decision making in the clinical learning environment, including identifying areas for your own development 
  • ​Demonstrate an understanding of leadership and professional attributes, including communication strategies, to bring about positive change using a quality improvement approach​

Assignments / assessments

​​Written assignment: quality improvement project proposal (2,000 words) (100%) 

  • ​A proposal for a quality improvement project to improve a clinical learning environment for nursing students 
  • ​Demonstrates knowledge of leadership, quality improvement methodologies, and practice supervision 
  • ​One resubmission will be offered if you do not pass at the first attempt; the module grade is capped at D3 

​This module does not have a final exam.​
