Nursing Skills and Practice 3 module (NU30300)

​​Nursing Skills and Practice 3 prepares you for independent practice at the point of registration. You apply theoretical knowledge to complex clinical situations, working with people across the lifespan in a range of healthcare settings. Through simulation-based learning in the clinical skills centre, you practise and refine the skills needed to provide safe, effective, person-centred care. 

​You explore how to build and maintain therapeutic relationships in challenging circumstances, such as palliative care conversations and supporting people experiencing suicidal ideation. The module emphasises the professional duty of candour and your responsibility to contribute to a culture of patient safety. 

​What you will learn 

​In this module, you will: 

• ​Complex communication skills, including difficult conversations relating to palliative care and suicidal ideation 
• ​A lifespan approach to mental and physical wellbeing, and health literacy 
• ​Complex patient assessment using the ABCDE framework across a variety of clinical scenarios 
• ​Medicine administration and documentation 
• ​The principles of courage, transparency, and the professional duty of candour 
• ​How to practise independently in a professional and ethical manner under direct supervision 

​By the end of this module, you will be able to: 

• ​Integrate theoretical learning into clinical practice 
• ​Safely demonstrate evidence-based practice in all skills and procedures 
• ​Demonstrate communication skills and the ability to build therapeutic relationships through simulation in various clinical settings across the lifespan 
• ​Demonstrate the skills and abilities required to support people at all stages of life 
• ​Contribute to a healthcare culture in which patient safety is of the utmost importance 
• ​Apply the principles of courage, transparency, and the professional duty of candour, recognising and reporting situations, behaviours, or errors that could result in poor care outcomes​
