​​This module takes your research and academic skills to a more advanced level, equipping you to critically engage with the evidence base that underpins nursing practice. 

​You'll demonstrate the ability to critically analyse research concepts and assess the relevance and trustworthiness of academic sources, including how to evaluate types, levels, and quality of evidence. The module extends your knowledge of research methods to include mixed methods approaches and develops your critical appraisal skills and understanding of ethical considerations in healthcare research. 

​You'll also evaluate digital literacy tools, including referencing software such as EndNote and searching multiple databases, and explore the barriers and facilitators to implementing EBP. You'll apply a range of critical thinking and digital literacy skills to address complex problems and support innovation in nursing practice. 

​What you will learn 

​In this module, you will:

  • ​Demonstrate an understanding of research methods by identifying the scope of healthcare research and describing the evidence-based practice, highlighting its relevance to nursing 
  • ​Evaluate various forms of digital literacy and academic skills to support academic success and enhance nursing practice 
  • ​Apply a range of critical thinking and digital literacy skills to address complex problems and support innovation in nursing practice​
