Develop the fundamental clinical skills and procedures you need as a nurse. You'll learn skills including communication, infection prevention, basic life support, medicines administration
Nursing Skills and Practice 1 develops your clinical competence under guided supervision. You'll practise fundamental nursing procedures in the Clinical Skills Centre in formats including simulated sessions, in preparation for attending your clinical practice placements in real clinical settings.
The module covers core areas including infection prevention and control, basic life support personal care, and therapeutic communication. You'll also cover ABCDE Assessment, SBAR Handover, nutritional assessment, oxygen therapy, and medicines administration. Theoretical aspects, including end of life care, are also included.
Throughout the module, you'll build the communication and relationship management skills to support you during clinical practice. You'll learn to prioritise patient safety and practise in a professional and ethical way under direct supervision.

Teaching takes place at both City Campus in Dundee and the Kirkcaldy Campus, using the Clinical Skills Centre facilities at each site.
