Nursing Skills and Practice 1 module (NU10204)
Develop confidence in key clinical skills and nursing procedures through guided supervision, supported by supervised teaching, simulation, and practice placements
This module takes you from the classroom into clinical practice, giving you the opportunity to develop and apply core nursing skills under supervision. You will build confidence in the clinical skills and nursing procedures mapped to the NMC standards.
Teaching is delivered through preparatory lectures, clinical skills sessions, task workshops, online resources, simulation exercises, and work-based learning in practice placements. You will use the Clinical Skills Centre at Ninewells Hospital, or the Kirkcaldy Campus, and practice in a range of clinical settings across the lifespan.
Throughout the module, patient safety is the central focus. You will practise in a professional and ethical manner under supervision, developing the foundational skills you need to progress to Year 2.

In this module, you will:

- Relate theoretical learning to practice across a range of clinical settings
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Relate theoretical learning to practice
- Practise the identified clinical skills and nursing procedures through simulation and in clinical settings
- Demonstrate achievement of these skills and procedures in line with requirements for progression to Year 2
- Contribute to a healthcare culture in which patient safety is of the highest importance
- Practise in a professional and ethical manner under supervision in accordance with local and national policies
