This module deepens your clinical and analytical knowledge for child nursing practice. You'll develop a critical understanding of pathophysiology and how it relates to common conditions affecting infants, children, and young people.
Central themes include child and family-centred care, the assessment of consent and capacity, and the pharmacology relevant to common childhood conditions. The module also examines diversity in care settings and the contribution of multi-disciplinary and inter-professional teams.
You'll reflect on your role as a child nurse within the wider healthcare team, and develop the knowledge needed to plan and deliver safe, effective, evidence-based care for infants, children, young people, and their families.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:

- Apply evidence-based nursing care across a range of settings, supporting children and their carers and families

- Interpret and apply knowledge of health sciences underpinning nursing care for infants, children, and young people with common conditions
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of child-centred nursing care and apply appropriate tools and frameworks across a range of settings
- Critically evaluate how to assess an individual's capacity and apply understanding of consent when caring for infants, children, and young people
- Reflect on the role of the child nurse as part of the multi-disciplinary team when working in partnership with infants, children, young people, and their families
