Develop your knowledge of pathophysiology and evidence-based nursing for infants, children, and young people at SCQF Level 8
Effective children's nursing depends on a sound understanding of how conditions and illnesses affect infants, children, and young people, and how to translate that knowledge into safe, evidence-based care. This module develops your knowledge of pathophysiology and its application to nursing practice.
You will explore common health conditions and illnesses, examine child-centred frameworks for assessment and care planning, and consider issues of consent and decision-making capacity. You will also examine pharmacology and drug administration in relation to common childhood conditions, and explore your role as a child nurse within the wider multi-professional team.

In this module, you will:
- Develop knowledge of pathophysiology and its application to nursing care of infants, children, young people, and their families
- Apply evidence-based nursing care for children with common health conditions and illnesses in a variety of settings
- Explore child-centred care and the considerations that shape consent and decision-making for infants, children, and young people
- Examine pharmacology and drug administration related to common conditions in infants, children, and young people
- Recognise your role as a child nurse within the multi/interprofessional team
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Develop and apply knowledge of health sciences that underpin nursing care of infants, children, and young people experiencing common conditions and illnesses
- Recognise and apply a child-centred approach to nursing care in a variety of settings using appropriate tools and frameworks
- Identify how to assess an individual's capacity to make decisions and apply understanding of considerations relating to giving or withholding consent when caring for infants, children, and young people
- Recognise the child nurse's role as part of the multi/interprofessional team when working in partnership with infants, children, young people, and their families
