Enhancing Healthcare Practice in Adult Nursing module (NA50303)

Managing complex care is one of the most challenging aspects of nursing practice. This module equips you with the knowledge and skills to assess, plan, and prioritise care for people with complex conditions and multiple long‑term health needs, including the safe management of polypharmacy. You will explore current developments in nursing practice and develop a critical understanding of the evidence that underpins effective complex care. 

A key focus of the module is palliative and end‑of‑life care, including future care planning and the policies and guidelines that shape this area of practice. You will also examine family‑centred care through relevant theoretical frameworks and explore how nurses lead and coordinate integrated care across organisations and settings, working collaboratively to meet the needs of patients and their families. 

What you will learn 

 In this module, you will: 

• Gain the knowledge and skills to recognise and manage clinical deterioration and complex, life‑threatening situations across a range of care settings.   
• Develop a deeper understanding of how to assess, prioritise, and deliver care for patients with multiple long‑term conditions.  
• Examine the principles, policies, and evidence base that underpin palliative and end‑of‑life care, including future care planning and decision‑making.  
• Explore key theoretical frameworks that support family‑centred care and promote wellbeing for patients and their families.  
• Understand the nurse’s leadership role in coordinating integrated care across organisations and diverse healthcare environment 

By the end of this module, you will be able to: 

• Discuss the contribution of nurses caring for people in various healthcare settings, including current developments at the forefront of managing complex care  
• Critically discuss the evidence that guides current nursing care for people with complex conditions, including understanding how these conditions affect the body.  
• Show how local and national policies, guidelines, and research are used to plan and deliver complex and palliative care effectively.  
• Apply key theories, concepts, and principles that support family‑centred care and promote wellbeing across different healthcare settings.  
• Explain the nurse’s role and responsibilities in leading and coordinating care for people with complex needs across all stages of life, using a range of care delivery approaches

• ​You will be given a range of scenarios and will be required to develop a comprehensive patient report to facilitate transfer between healthcare settings (3,000 words). 

​Online exam (25%) 

• ​This is to be completed in 60 minutes
