Ultrasound technology plays a crucial role in diagnostic medicine. This module provides a thorough understanding of ultrasound technology.

In this module, you will explore the principles, techniques, and applications of ultrasound imaging. You will also gain practical knowledge in operating and interpreting ultrasound machines.

You will learn the knowledge and skills to operate, interpret, and leverage ultrasound technology. This will give you the expertise to work in the ultrasound industry.

What You Will Learn

In this module, you will:

  • learn about the physics of ultrasound waves. This will include how tissues generate, propagate, and interact with them
  • learn about the components of ultrasound systems. This will include transducers, signal processing, and image formation.
  • explore different ultrasound imaging modalities. This includes 2D, 3D, and Doppler imaging for various medical purposes
  • study the use of ultrasound in different medical specialties
  • learn about high-intensive ultrasound for therapy and high-power ultrasound for surgery
  • develop skills to interpret ultrasound images. You will also learn to identify abnormalities as well as correlate findings with clinical diagnoses during image interpretation
  • understand safety protocols in ultrasound imaging for assurance of safety
  • understand the bioeffects of ultrasound and learn quality control measures in ultrasound imaging

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • describe ultrasound transducer design and its functionalities for various clinical applications
  • analyse and evaluate ultrasound data to aid in medical decision-making
  • put in place safety protocols to adhere to the ethical use of ultrasound technology
