What you will learn
This module has covers many complex case studies that will help students learn how to give advice in tough family situations.
We will cover topics like:
- Funding for residential and nursing care
- Inheritance tax forms and returns
- Tax planning
- Power of Attorney process, how to assess capacity, and the effects of a lack of capacity
- Drafting complex wills
- Complex estates calculations
Guest speakers often give the lectures. They come from groups like The Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service and the Office of the Public Guardian.
Assignments / assessment
- four pieces of coursework of equal weighting (22.5% each)
- professional attributes, including attendance and participation in tutorials (10%)
This module does not have a final exam.
Each assessment must be passed to attain an overall pass in the module. If a student fails an individual assessment, a substitute assessment may be set at the discretion of the Module Organiser and Diploma Director
