Advanced Private Client module (LW52014)

What you will learn

This module has covers many complex case studies that will help students learn how to give advice in tough family situations.

We will cover topics like:

  • Funding for residential and nursing care
  • Inheritance tax forms and returns
  • Tax planning
  • Power of Attorney process, how to assess capacity, and the effects of a lack of capacity
  • Drafting complex wills
  • Complex estates calculations

Guest speakers often give the lectures. They come from groups like The Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service and the Office of the Public Guardian.

Assignments / assessment

  • four pieces of coursework of equal weighting (22.5% each)
  • professional attributes, including attendance and participation in tutorials (10%)

This module does not have a final exam.

Each assessment must be passed to attain an overall pass in the module. If a student fails an individual assessment, a substitute assessment may be set at the discretion of the Module Organiser and Diploma Director
