Introduction to Forensic Science module (LV30001)
Develop a critical understanding of forensic evidence, the role of expert witnesses, and the use of science in the criminal justice system
This module provides the theoretical grounding needed to engage critically with forensic science as it operates within the criminal justice system. Topics covered include the definition and types of evidence, the role of forensic science in an investigation, evaluation and analysis of evidence, presentation of evidence in court, the robusticity of forensic science methods, the impact of bias, and the procedural guidelines required of forensic scientists. You will develop the skills to both evaluate the value of scientific evidence and to question it in a meaningful way, including an understanding of the role of the expert witness and how expert testimony is introduced to court.
