Mathematics

The module will focus on basic algebra and trigonometry.

A sound knowledge of mathematics is essential in many subjects. This is particularly true in all branches of engineering and science studied at university. It is also useful in other subjects, such as Accountancy.

By completing this module, you will show your potential. You will be able to cope with university entry-level subject-specific knowledge. You will also be able to show related understanding and subject-specific skills. These are required by undergraduate students.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • study topics in basic algebra. This includes manipulating algebraic expression and solving algebraic equations
  • study topics in trigonometry. This include basic trigonometry, solving trigonometric equations, proving trigonometric identities

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • simplify algebraic expressions
  • solve algebraic equations
  • understand the meaning of trigonometric functions
  • solve trigonometric equations
  • prove trigonometric identities
  • simplify trigonometric expressions

Assignments / assessment

  • timed online assignments (100%)

This module does not have a final exam.
