Learn the key academic and professional skills required for studying at undergraduate level
Academic and Professional Skills is a core module for Online Access Summer School.
It will help you make the transition to university study by encouraging you to develop some of the core skills you'll need to study at degree level.
The module will introduce you to some of the key expectations that you'll face at university. It will also help you to think about your own expectations of university. This will help you to succeed in Summer School and beyond.
Key areas covered will include effective learning, conducting research, academic writing and communication, and assessment at university. You'll also explore how to develop a reflective and critical approach to your academic and professional development.
The skills, approaches and advice from this module will also help you with the other modules you study at Summer School.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:
- develop a critically reflective approach to studying at university
- understand how to research, plan and deliver university level assignments
- understand how assessment works at the University of Dundee and how to make the most of feedback
- explore how to get the most out of different types of learning environment and activity
- understand the factors of career choice and develop your self-reflection and career planning skills
By the end of the module, you will be able to:
- better understand the expectations and demands placed upon you as a university student
- consider your approach to learning and how that may need to be adapted or enhanced for university study
- use your career planning skills, critically applying the factors of career choice to your own career planning
Assignments / assessment
- This module either has a 'completed' or 'non-completed' status based on satisfactory engagement with the module content and associated online activities
This module does not have a final exam
Teaching methods / timetable
This is an on-demand online course, meaning you study at your own pace and a time that suits you.
There are no scheduled classes, although opportunities will be provided to join live drop-in sessions and there will be tutor support throughout the module.
All necessary resources will be provided online via the My Dundee service.
