Movement rehabilitation enhances how human bodies move and perform. Biomechanics is key to effective rehabilitation. The aim is to lower injury risk and the impact of illness. Rehabilitation helps bring back lost function or make up for it.

This module explores current rehabilitation approaches and trends. It looks at the principles and processes behind them, and how they are applied.

What you will learn

In this module, you will learn about:

  • typical rehabilitation pathways
  • fundamental patterns and models
  • initial examination of patients and clients
  • monitoring and assessment
  • goal setting and clinical reasoning
  • research informed trends and practices
  • barriers and behaviours
  • common misconceptions and mistakes
  • delivery.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • show an understanding of client assessment and analysis
  • demonstrate clinical reasoning, goal setting and planning
  • design and deliver rehabilitation programmes
  • defend and discuss decisions and decision making
  • show awareness of social and physical barriers
  • identify common problems and mistakes
  • adapt your reasoning and planning.

You will develop transferable skills, including high levels of critical thinking. You will also learn how to conduct yourself in an appropriate, professional and safe way.

Assignments / assessment

  • Group presentation (60%). As a group you will develop a comprehensive rehabilitation plan based on a case study.
  • Practical exam (40%). You will receive various scenarios and time for planning. You will then demonstrate your skills and answer questions.
