GM52036

Medically Assisted Reproduction (MAR) is treatment to help patients conceive. This includes a wide range of interventions, such as ovulation induction, intra-uterine insemination, and surgery. Assisted Reproduction Technology (ART), such as in vitro fertilisation (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), and fertility preservation are also examples of MAR.

This is a rapidly advancing area of medicine, and is also the subject of various clinical controversies.

Building on your knowledge from the GM50030 Fundamental Science Module, you will explore the clinical aspects of reproductive medicine, with a focus on ethical and legal issues. The close links we have with the highly successful Assisted Conception Unit (ACU) at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee allows students to be taught by specialised clinical staff. To enhance your understanding of the patient experience, you will be following patients throughout their fertility treatment.
