Part 1

Ensure a working understanding of palliative care regarding:

  • Identification of patients who could benefit from a palliative approach to care.
  • The management of the common symptoms in palliative care patients.
  • To enable future researchers to have the requisite understanding of and skills to deal with communication issues related to clinical research. Issues include: patient centred consent, dealing with distress, engaging other professionals reducing gate-keeping and separation of a clinical role from the researcher role.
  • To be able to describe and reflect on research governance issues and challenges specific to palliative care research.

Part 2
