Part 1
Ensure a working understanding of palliative care regarding:
Identification of patients who could benefit from a palliative approach to care.
The management of the common symptoms in palliative care patients.
To enable future researchers to have the requisite understanding of and skills to deal with communication issues related to clinical research. Issues include: patient centred consent, dealing with distress, engaging other professionals reducing gate-keeping and separation of a clinical role from the researcher role.
To be able to describe and reflect on research governance issues and challenges specific to palliative care research.
