This module gives you skills that are useful in many different fields. You will learn about research governance, due process, methods and statistics. You will also develop high levels of analytical, practical and communication skills.

What you will learn

In this module, you will learn about:

  • research designs (the scientific method)
  • the research environment and governance
  • ethics
  • approaches to information gathering and review
  • critical thinking and analysis
  • sampling
  • data and distribution
  • handling and reviewing data
  • statistics and assumptions
  • software and simple programming
  • creating research proposals

By the end of the module, you will be able to:

  • show a critical and informed understanding of how to undertake and approach research
  • identify and evaluate literature, information sources, and evidence
  • write a comprehensive research proposal
  • show your knowledge and skills in statistics (interpretation and modelling)
  • show enhanced academic and transferable skills
