The Clinical Embryology and in vitro fertilisation programme is a postgraduate programme of online distance learning, giving students an in-depth understanding of medically assisted reproduction (MAR) techniques such as in vitro fertilisation (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), as well as the field of human reproduction and the wider assisted conception industry.

The induction module is the first module in the programme and will give you the skills necessary to study effectively online by introducing you to the virtual learning environment (VLE), the programmes and software you will use, and the core academic skills you will need during your studies.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • learn about the programme, relevant regulations and processes, and the learning culture within the course
  • practice information retrieval skills and using the University of Dundee Library Online services, and academic writing skills such as academic integrity and referencing

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • understand your rights and responsibilities as a postgraduate student
  • navigate the virtual learning environment
  • access reading lists and virtual resources
  • post to discussion boards
  • recognise the learning skills required for online postgraduate study and where to seek support
  • perform literature searches and write short topic summaries
  • upload an assignment and understand assignment feedback

Assignments / assessment

This module is not formally assessed. All activities are designed to introduce and develop skills that will be assessed in subsequent modules.

Teaching methods / timetable

This module is part of a part-time distance learning course (MSc Clinical Embryology and IVF). All teaching and materials will be available online, with the majority of activities taking place asynchronously in our virtual learning environment.
