You will learn about processes which shape the geography of cities. You will engage with theoretical debates which shape interpretations of the city. You will develop a critical appreciation of historical and contemporary urban landscapes. This will allow you to reflect on your own and others' experiences of the city.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • develop an understanding of the processes which shape the geographies of cities
  • plan, design, and execute a piece of research for the 'City Spaces' project
  • employ quantitative and/or qualitative methods to collect, analyse, and interpret geographical evidence
  • participate in debates about the moral and ethical issues involved in urban research

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • understand the different ways in which geographers have attempted to make sense of the city
  • have experience in critically assessing a range of visual and textual materials used in the study of urban places
  • understand the economic, political, and social activities that shape the geography of contemporary cities
