This module is designed to expand your understanding of the role of place and space in the social and cultural construction of childhood(s). You will learn of the ways children and young people use and experience different environments. You will engage with innovations in research with young people.

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • engage with the work of geographers and others working with children and youth
  • learn to explain ways in which space, place, and environment are used and experienced by children and young people
  • analyse research papers.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • explain the role of space and place in the social and cultural construction of childhood(s)
  • demonstrate the diversity of childhood and youth, internationally and at the local scale
  • understand the different methods used in research with young people.

  • coursework (50%)
    • essay (30%)
    • seminars (20% to include different elements of leading, facilitation, and contribution to other seminars)
  • examination (50%)
