​​This 30-credit capstone module integrates the academic and professional experience you have developed across the course, asking you to examine real engineering projects and decisions through the lens of design, sustainability, risk management and health and safety, and professionalism and ethics.

You will produce a substantial written report and a ten-minute video presentation that demonstrate your ability to analyse complex, cross-cutting issues at an advanced level and communicate your findings professionally.

Work is carried out independently throughout the year, supported by regular meetings with your academic advisor and your workplace mentor.

These meetings provide structured opportunities to develop your submission and reflect on your professional practice and future development. 

​What you will learn 

​In this module, you will: 

  • ​Examine and analyse engineering projects and decisions in terms of design, sustainability, and risk 
  • ​Apply health and safety and professional ethics frameworks to real civil engineering contexts 
  • ​Communicate complex engineering analysis through professionally written reports 
  • ​Reflect on learning in academic and professional settings and plan for the future 

​By the end of this module, you will be able to: 

  • ​Analyse cross-cutting issues in civil engineering and construction at an advanced level 
  • ​Produce a professionally written report addressing design, sustainability, risk, and ethics 
  • ​Deliver an engaging ten-minute video presentation of your findings 
  • ​Demonstrate reflective practice and planning for continued professional development​
