Agile Methodology module (GA31013)
Learn Agile methodologies for IT product development. This includes team building, collaborative tools, and continuous improvement for IT Graduate Apprentices
Agile Methodology provides a comprehensive understanding of Agile approaches to IT and IS product development at SCQF Level 9, contrasting these with traditional project management methodologies. Topics include Agile frameworks and team structures, collaborative tools for product development, Agile quality assurance and continuous improvement, planning and estimation in Agile, and ethical, legal, and data protection issues in software engineering.
The module develops an Agile mindset, equipping you to apply iterative and incremental delivery approaches in your organisation. Teaching uses a blended learning approach combining in-class workshops with My Dundee resources, with strong emphasis on reflective practice and workplace application.
Assessment is through a group product development project where you work with a real-life client to apply the principles of Agile Product development to solve a real-world product development problem. This gives you the opportunity to reflect on Agile methodology in a workplace context.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:
- Understand different Agile frameworks and their application to IT and IS product development
- Build and manage Agile teams, and understand the roles and responsibilities within an Agile project management team
- Apply collaborative tools to support Agile product development
- Understand and apply Agile quality assurance and continuous improvement practices
- Plan and estimate effectively within an Agile environment
- Understand the ethical, legal, and data protection considerations in software engineering
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Gain an understanding of agile project delivery and be able to roll out a business system project accurately, in a customer-friendly way and consistent with business needs
- Understand the importance of delivering value early and often, iterating and continuously improving workflows where necessary
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of a typical agile project management team and how they interact
- Apply Agile methodologies and approaches for iterative and continuous delivery of value in organisations, using collaborative tools for product development
- Understand how the engagement of Agile methodologies can support and transform product development and value creation in organisations
Assignments / assessments
Coursework (100%)
- A coursework report giving students the opportunity to reflect on Agile methodology practices and their application within a workplace setting.
- You will engage in reflection and feedback with the lecturer throughout the module prior to the submission deadline.
This module does not have a final exam.
