You will learn about the natural variability in time and space of natural resources. You will learn how to analyse them, how to exploit them sustainably, and how to develop a model. This will allow you to explore the connections between different factors such as:

  • natural resource variability
  • renewable energy generating infrastructure
  • consumer demand for energy
  • CO2 emissions

What you will learn

In this module, you will:

  • build your knowledge of natural resources
  • learn methods for monitoring and estimating solar and wind power resources
  • increase your skills in identification of opportunities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • understand natural resources - rainfall, surface water, groundwater, wind and solar power
  • produce a flow duration curve and compare river flow behaviour between watercourses
  • develop and use a statistical model
  • compare river flow behaviour between watercourses
  • monitor and estimate solar and wind power resources
  • understand methods of environmental modelling

Assignments / assessment

  • portfolio assessment

This module does not have a final exam.
