Professional Practice Year 4 - All Stages (Choice) module (ED42002)
This is the final Professional Practice that you will undertake on the four-year MA (Hons) Education course.
This professional practice module is designed to enhance your understanding of learning and teaching in your chosen stage. You will develop your understanding of inclusion, differentiation, social justice, equity, transition, recording, and reporting in education.
You will synthesise learning across all four years of university and previous professional practices.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:
- show improved teaching skills, subject knowledge, and understanding gained over four years of university and prior professional practice
- plan, implement, and evaluate a variety of teaching and learning experiences over continuous periods of responsibility during placement
- ensure planning meets the needs of all children
- undertake assessment recording and reporting
- demonstrate an enhanced understanding of the role of partnership in education
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- demonstrate your enhanced ability to be a critical, reflective practitioner
- demonstrate that you have met the Standards for Provisional Registration (General Teaching Council for Scotland)
- demonstrate your role as a professional through observing the General Teaching Council for Scotland's Code of Professional Conduct (GTCS, 2008)
Assignments / assessment
You will be assessed summatively by both a university tutor and the school, with an overall grade of satisfactory or unsatisfactory against the areas of the Standards for Provisional Registration (SPR) (100%)
Teaching methods / timetable
You will learn through focused teaching, tutorials, and your Professional Practice Placement
- Tutorials
- Tutorials take place in the second semester with your professional practice tutor in small student groups
- Professional Practice Placement
- This placement consists of one pre-visit week and a ten week placement block
- Placement Briefing
- Students will be briefed about placement requirements and expectations
- Recall Day
- Students will return to university for a Recall Day during placement to have an opportunity to reflect on their practice and meet with their tutor. Visiting speakers are invited in to develop understanding of aspects of practice
