Textiles: Making Futures module (DJ40014)
You will build a strong portfolio of design work and key transferable skills. This will ease your next steps into industry, further study, or entrepreneurship
You will conceive a self-initiated design project.
You will then work on researching, developing and delivering the project. You will draw on skills and experience that you have gained through your study so far. You will also align the project brief to your chosen career path.
You will show that the project has potential to positively impact your selected market area.
The module is investigative and practice-led. You will underpin this by focused and thorough contextual research. This will be into the chosen subject area within the broader field of textile design.
What you will learn
In this module, you will:
- learn to conceive and develop a self-initiated project
- research a topic thoroughly, showing both depth and breadth of your research
- develop appropriate design responses to your chosen brief
- produce resolved design work to a high level
- present your work visually, textually and verbally to professional audiences
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- show subject-specific knowledge. You will also have the ability to articulate its contemporary relevance
- exhibit critical understanding of contextual perspectives, concepts and issues
- show a professional level of relevant practical and technical skills. These will show a broad range of enquiry
- show that you display effective communication with professional level peers and specialists
- conduct effective management of personal academic investigation. This will include reflect practice
Assignments / assessment
- coursework (100%)
You will present a substantial portfolio of work that addresses the assessment criteria.
Submissions may include visual and contextual research, design and sample development. They may also include resolved designs and visualisations of work in context.
This module does not have a final exam.
Teaching methods / timetable
The module will largely be based in the studio. This tends to cultivate an environment where you can learn from your peers while you work.
Other learning on the module will take place by:
- tutorials. These will be either one-to-one or in groups
- workshops and activities
- lectures and discussions
- supporting resources.. These will be available in the University's virtual learning environment, My Dundee
- formal reviews with written feedback
